This site is an archive of modern photography celebrating the traditional American family farm. These photographs are licensed to graphics professionals in advertising, publishing, government, and industry. We do not license usage to individuals, and these are not "royalty free" images. All quotes are based on a single, accepted use. Redistribution is expressly prohibited.
Image and Site History:
Nearly all these images were originally made during the production of books written and illustrated by Hans and April Halberstadt -- "The American Family Farm," "Farm Memories," "Orchard Tractors," "Steam Tractors," "Combines and Harvesters," "Farm Tractors," and others, originally published by MBI and Barnes & Noble.
Some of these images feature Amish farmers in eastern Ohio and were made with the consent of the people in the photos. While some Amish sects object to photography of themselves under any conditions, others don't mind documentary coverage but won't pose.
There's a lot of horsepower on this site, and for good reason -- we love heavy horses and heavy horses love to work. Several thousand American and Canadian farmers still work with horses, using them for tilling and harvesting.
